Established in June 1992 and approved as a provincial-level development zone by the Jiangsu provincial government in December 1993, Wuxi Liyuan Economic Development Zone comprises eight communities, including Xiyuan, Yinxuiyuan, Huanhu, Hubinyuan, Dajishan, Yugang, Hujing, and Hudai, with a resident population of 58,000 and a registered population of 34,000. The development zone boasts a government-owned industrial carrier area of 1.37 million square meters, 33 buildings with more than 10 floors, and eight industrial management service centers in fields such as urban development, research and innovation, Jiangnan design, creativity, integrated circuits, Evergrande, lake views, and Hudai, as well as a comprehensive support service area along Building Road.
The development zone hosts prestigious research institutions and public service platforms, including the Tsinghua University Wuxi Applied Research Institute, the National Supercomputing (Wuxi) Center, the Harbin Institute of Technology Robot Group (Wuxi) Innovation Center, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Space Key Laboratory Innovation Practice Base, and more. It’s also home to Wuxi’s intellectual property service industry cluster and Binhu District’s venture capital industry cluster, enhancing innovation services in the region.
In 2019, the development zone achieved an annual tax revenue of 2.004 billion RMB, a general public budget revenue of 1.031 billion RMB, an industrial added value of 9.925 billion RMB, a revenue of 3.54 billion RMB from above-scale service industries, 868 million RMB in retail sales of consumer goods above quota, a total import and export value of 100 million USD, actual foreign investment of 41.27 million USD, and a total social fixed asset investment of 4.3 billion RMB, including 1.173 billion RMB in industrial investment.
